Challenges
The most challenging aspect of this project was the time frame to complete this project and the stop-motion animation used in the beginning of the video. The two week deadline for this project was tight and we had to work fast. We needed to put this together within two weeks. It was only a team of two and we had a lot of jobs too cover in order to get this done. We also used animation in the for a scene which took some time to complete.
The stop-motion was a challenge due to studio rental times and prop structure. We did the stop-motion photography in the film studio at Northeastern University. This studio is shared amongst students and alumni’s of Northeastern University. Available days to used the studio were limited and times varied. On days when we had the studio, setting up props in positions we needed to shoot posed some difficulty. This caused us to retake shots and ate some of studio time.
Solutions
For the timing, we began the project with forming brainstorming session and creating a storyboard for the video. The storyboard provided us with the full vision of the project and set us on a path to assemble all the props, actors, tools, and materials we needed to complete the video. We were also able to scrap any ideas that would take too long to complete.
For the stop-motion we created some makeshift supports for some of the props that were giving us trouble with positioning. This helped us get the shots we needed and allowed us to move on to other scenes quicker. With the stop-motion scene finished, the rest of the footage needed quicker and easier to take.
